It’s been a busy few weeks as we get going at Dot and the Line this summer. We’ve been busy sourcing equipment and suppliers, making, building, borrowing and taking lots of trips to B&Q. (Other DIY stores are available!). We’ve made a UV lightbox for exposing the photo emulsion on screens for screen printing and for making the polymer plates for letterpress printing. More details on that in a future post.
After all that activity, it was good to get some ink flowing and see some products in production.
The covers for these notebooks are made using very simple paper stencils which, when applied to the screen, produce lovely crisp images. A good friend gave us a tip; use baking parchment to make your stencils. It’s strong enough to cut cleanly and thin enough for a really clear print.
The notebooks are then made using a saddle stitch technique, some colourful waxed linen thread and a variety of colours of pages – orange, blue, white and black.
You’ll find the first batch on the shelves at the Creative Showroom, the shop at the studio where we’re based. More to come soon which will be available on our new online shop to ship worldwide.
